Flyers Reportedly in Contact With Jets About Nikolaj Ehlers
By Adam Godfrey
The Winnipeg Jets are going to be very busy this NHL offseason considering they are nearing the salary cap max and have a lot of players to take care of.
With six restricted free agents and five unrestricted free agents, the Jets have a good portion of the roster to take care of, or get rid of.
One player who could be traded to clear up some cap space would be 23-year-old winger Nikolaj Ehlers, whose name has already surfaced in rumors.
Ehlers carries with him six more years on his contract that pays him $6 million annually, which could go a long way if the Jets decide to move him. One team that has shown interest in him is the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers have reportedly been in contact with the Jets about a potential deal that includes Ehlers and even the 11th overall pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.
Although Ehlers has a lot of potential, the Jets may need to sacrifice the young player in order to re-sign more players that could hit the open market, or even receive offer sheets from other teams that can afford them.
Regardless, the Jets will need to be active this off-season, whether they want to or not.
