VIDEO: Former Astro Marwin Gonzalez Apologizes for Role in Sign-Stealing Scandal
By Jackson Thompson
Another player has finally come out and apologized for undermining the integrity of baseball through his involvement in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. The catch, however, is that the apology comes from a current Minnesota Twin. Utility man Marwin Gonzalez, who played for the Astros during their 2017 World Series run before signing with the Twins in 2019, publicly apologized for his involvement in the scandal.
Gonzalez said he feels regret and remorse for taking part in the utilization of electronic sign-stealing. He went on to say that it's "impossible to know" if Houston would have won the World Series in 2017 had they not engaged in sign-stealing throughout the season.
Gonzalez now joins Dallas Keuchel and Charlie Morton as the only players to apologize in the wake of the scandal's exposure, though none of the three are still in Houston.
No current Astro has apologized publicly for their involvement, or even shown much remorse at all. In comments to the media, second basemen Jose Altuve assured the public that the Astros will win the World Series this year, without the use of sign-stealing technology.
Hopefully the organization realizes that apologizing is a crucial next step and some players currently on the roster follow in Gonzalez's footsteps. Fans and players across the league are eagerly awaiting even an ounce of accountability to be taken.
