Former A's Minor Leaguer Miguel Marte Passes Away of COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lives of individuals in nearly every country around the world.
Professional athletes have been impacted as well, and not just in the form of cancelled games. Players have tested positive and sad news was shared by the Oakland A's on Friday about a former minor leaguer who lost his life due to COVID-19 complications. Miguel Marte tragically passed away at the age of 30.
Marte was in the organization from 2008-2012 and never came close to reaching the majors. Yet he is still part of the A's family and his death at such a young age should help shed even more light on the seriousness of this pandemic.
The team shared a link to a GoFundMe page to help support Marte's family. The A's donated $1,000 on Friday to help the fundraiser go over it's initial goal of $5,000.
Our thoughts are with his family and all those who have been affected during this pandemic.
