Former Lions Tight End Garrett Hudson Backs Up Darius Slay and Destroys Matt Patricia On Twitter
By Michael Luciano
The Detroit Lions parted ways with cornerback Darius Slay via trade, and the Pro Bowl corner couldn't have been happier to escape the Matt Patricia regime. On top of the fact the team only won nine games in the last two years, Slay took issue with Patricia allegedly saying he shouldn't work out with Aqib Talib and Richard Sherman because they were "elite" while Slay was "just good."
Former Lions tight end Garrett Hudson, who ended up in the XFL, later backed up Slay's take on Patricia, claiming that the former Patriots defensive coordinator was "literally the worst person" he has interacted with as a football player.
Glossing over the argument that Slay is verifiably better than both Sherman and Talib at this point, comments like Patricia's highlight his prickly personality. Hudson is here to back Slay up and reassure everyone that the Lions boss is indeed as rough around the edges as he seems.
Hudson also claims that Patricia mocked running back Kerryon Johnson in front of the entire team for... *checks notes*... knowing which year constructed finished on Ford Field??
It was 2002, by the way.
Hudson did let everyone know that he was only there for rookie minicamp, and that things might have changed since Patricia's first season in charge. He also makes allowance for the possibility that the man just treats veterans with more respect than the rookies. Still, his initial salvo was some pretty incendiary stuff.
Patricia has made quite a few enemies in the NFL, as elite corners and XFL tight ends alike can't stand the Lions coach. That doesn't bode overly well for Detroit's chances at being upwardly mobile in the NFC North this fall.
