A legend of the New York Mets simply can't seem to escape his problems with the law.

Former franchise icon Dwight Gooden was arrested in Newark, New Jersey on Monday after he was charged for driving while intoxicated. It's the second time in two months that Gooden has been arrested.

Gooden was stopped by police after he was caught driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street. His previous arrest came on June 7 when he was nabbed on suspicion of possession of cocaine and driving under the influence in Holmdel, New Jersey.

Gooden initially had a court date for the Holmdel incident on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old's struggles with substance abuse are well-documented. While he was a player, Gooden was suspended for part of the 1994 season and all of the 1995 season after he tested positive for cocaine.

A Cy Young award winner in 1985 and a four-time All-Star during his playing days, Gooden served jail time back in 2006 for his problems with drug use. He's been trying to get clean for quite some time now, but it appears as if he's still struggling to stay sober.
