Does anyone else think it's comical that Mickey Callaway has a new job before the New York Mets could replace him?

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Los Angeles Angels have hired former Mets skipper Mickey Callaway as their new pitching coach.

Callaway was the Cleveland Indians' pitching coach for their World Series team before he landed the Mets managerial job. He'll be working under new Angels manager Joe Maddon, who was actually a bench coach for the Angels when Callaway pitched for the team in 2002 and 2003.

Callaway was a very average manager in his two seasons with the Mets, posting a 163-161 record. He certainly didn't elevate the team, which had plenty of talent, during his tenure, but he's a well-respected pitching mind that had success in a more concentrated coaching role.

While the Mets are still conducting managerial interviews, Callaway has a new job. Go figure.
