Former Mets Second-Rounder Blasts Organization and Tim Tebow After Being Released
By Michael Luciano
Former second-round pick Andrew Church, who struggled with injuries and consistency during the last few seasons, was one of the dozens of minor league players the New York Mets cut ties with on Thursday. Now no longer a Mets employee, Church burned every bridge in sight with an Instagram post that trashed the organization.
In addition to claiming that he was routinely shuffled between levels in less than satisfactory conditions that led to a UCL injury, Church claims that the Mets made a "mockery" of their player development system by signing a certain "celebrity to play for them."
It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out the celebrity he is talking about is former Heisman winner and NFL quarterback Tim Tebow.
Church's anger isn't exactly misplaced here. If you were trying to make it in the minor leagues and saw your playing time cut in half so that the Mets could put more butts in the seats in Port St. Lucie or Binghamton, you'd wonder what the heck is going on within this toxic organization.
Just like any sport, if things are rotten at the top of the chain, it trickles down to all levels of the organization. While Wilpon sycophants, who somehow continue to exist, will attack Church for his poor performance that led to his release, Church's honest, forthright, and damning evaluation of how the Mets do business is another black mark on an organization with plenty of those over the last few years.
