Former NFL QB David Carr Actually Thinks Jets Will Beat Out Patriots to Win AFC East
By Sean Facey
Every year, there's inevitably someone who thinks a team in the AFC East has a chance to take down the New England Patriots. Sometimes it's a player, other times it's a member of the media.
This time around, though, it's "man who probably thinks he beat the Patriots as a Giants backup," former NFL quarterback David Carr. The former No. 1 overall pick is somehow taking the New York Jets as the team to unseat the Patriots, a team that has won the division 14 times in the last 15 years.
Calling it a bold take would be an understatement. The Jets are shaping up to be an interesting team this year, but it's a bit reckless to be picking them to dethrone Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
New York is entering it's first season under head coach Adam Gase. Even with the amount of talent they've added in the offseason, they're likely going to go through some growing pains. They've also still got some glaringly obvious holes, specifically at cornerback.
The Patriots also have one of the best defenses they've fielded in quite some time. Even if Brady struggles due to age and the absence of Rob Gronkowski, they've got a strong defensive core headlined by the likes of Stephon Gilmore, Dont'a Hightower and Michael Bennett.
Whatever the offense may lack this year, the guys on the other side of the ball are more than ready to pick up the slack.
It's understandable to like the Jets as a team this year. They're a talented bunch. But there's simply no reason to be betting against the team that's dominated the division so thoroughly since the turn of the century.
Also, I'm sorry...Chiefs out of the playoffs? May we ask why?
