Former Packers TE Brandon Bostick Shares Racist Messages He Received After 2015 NFC Championship Loss
By Jerry Trotta
With protests against racial injustice and police brutality sweeping the nation, countless individuals are coming forward and showing tremendous courage by sharing their own unfortunate encounters.
Brandon Bostick, a former tight end for the Green Bay Packers, was one of those people. On Friday, the 31-year-old took to social media to share reprehensible racist messages he received via Twitter after dropping a crucial onside kick in the 2015 NFC Championship Game that ultimately ended in a loss for the Packers. WARNING: the screenshots contain NFSW language.
"Fans" hiding behind keyboards to slander professional athletes after a letdown performance is a prevalent trend in today's day and age, but this...this is beyond repulsive. We don't care that Bostick's botched recovery has gone down as one of the most regrettable plays in Packers history. Nothing warrants this sort of abuse.
As if the sheer mental warfare and national embarrassment that resulted from this blunder wasn't enough, the Newberry College product was subjected to arguably the most vulgar example of written racism we've seen come to light in the last week. For anybody that has a Twitter account, that speaks volumes.
Some kindhearted folks in the reply section realized this and took the time to express some words of encouragement to the former NFL veteran.
Bostick's troubling experience further echoes the need to weed out racism across the country. Credit to him for mustering the fortitude to share his story. It certainly couldn't have been easy.
