Former Patriots CB Cyrus Jones Undergoes Open-Heart Surgery
By Michael Luciano
One of football's most electric return men underwent a major medical procedure to correct an issue with his heart.
Denver Broncos cornerback and returner Cyrus Jones, who was placed on the non-football injury list earlier in the season, underwent open-heart surgery in order to fix an anomalous coronary artery.
An anomalous coronary artery occurs when an artery grows in the wrong place. The recovery time for this injury is around three months, but that time frame isn't a hard and fast deadline.
A former second-round pick out of Alabama, Jones struggled to get on the field as a corner with the Patriots, but was given new life as a returner for both New England and the Baltimore Ravens, with whom he ran back 12 punts and made two tackles in 2019. Jones was cut after Week 9 and latched on with Denver.
Jones thanked his fans for the constant prayers and support on Instagram.
Football is secondary for Jones at this point, as he needs to make sure his heart is in good condition. Hopefully Jones can work his way back onto the football field. Get well soon, Cyrus!
