Former Rangers All-Star Josh Hamilton Reportedly Arrested for Injury to a Child
By Adam Weinrib
Josh Hamilton, the 2010 AL MVP and owner of one of the most inspirational modern comeback stories in sports, was arrested and released on Wednesday on a third-degree felony charge: injury to a child.
We have very few details to report on this case, but we'll present you with the unfortunate facts we've currently been given, and will address any changes moving forward.
Records available in family court show that the slugger's ex-wife Katie Hamilton had filed for a protective order earlier in October, on behalf of one of the couple's three children, Hamilton's daughter.
His bond conditions, post-release, reportedly include zero contact with minors under 17, restricting interactions with one of his daughters.
Hamilton, once selected first overall in the 1999 draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, soon saw his big league career spiraling out of control, missing three full years of minor league action after a series of failed drug tests and bouts with cocaine addiction. His rise to prominence, capped by a heroic 2008 Home Run Derby performance at Yankee Stadium, will never be forgotten.
In the intervening years, however, Hamilton has had several reported relapses, mostly with alcohol.
