Former Red Sox Utility-Man Brock Holt Reportedly Agrees to Deal With Brewers
By Michael Luciano

Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell was a light-hitting middle infielder who prided himself on versatility, contact, and defense.
Counsell signed perhaps his mirror image today when the Brewers agreed to a deal with Brock Holt, who spent the last few seasons as a key member of the Boston Red Sox.

After a brief cameo with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Holt played the last seven years of his career in Boston, hitting .270 with 23 home runs while making one All-Star team, and winning a championship in 2018. He hit .297 in 87 games last season.
Holt is not going to be a power threat by any stretch of the imagination, but his consistent contact, speed and nearly unparalleled versatility as a defender will help any team that is trying to make a run at a division crown like Milwaukee is.

Holt is exactly the type of high-floor, veteran signing that inevitably ends up with a clutch hit or defensive play that saves Milwaukee's bacon late in a pivotal September matchup. A sneaky-good signing from Counsell.
