Former Red Wings Defenseman Mike Commodore Blasts Mike Babcock With NSFW Insult
By Adam Godfrey
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock has proven that he is a great coach in the NHL throughout his 17 years as a head coach.
Along the way to his current job, he coached the Anaheim Ducks and the Detroit Red Wings, and made some enemies along the way.
One enemy he made in Anaheim was ex-Red Wings defenseman Mike Commodore, who absolutely ripped Babcock in an interview on 97.1 The Ticket.
Commodore goes after Babcock, calling him a whole bunch of names that cannot be repeated, and calling him a liar. He also attacked Babcock's ego, calling him selfish and arrogant.
The feud between the two started way back in 2002 in Anaheim. Babcock cut Commodore for reportedly showing up to training camp overweight and sent him down to the minors. Later on in the season, Babcock issued a fat test on him even though he was not playing, and Commodore claims the test was false. Commodore was eventually traded after issuing an insult to Babcock.
The two did not cross paths for almost 10 years after that, until the Detroit Red Wings offered Commodore a one year contract in 2011. The only way he would sign was if he got Babcock's word that he was not trying to end his career, so he got what he wanted and signed in Detroit.
However, it did not go as well, after getting injured in training camp and not cracking the roster after he became healthy, he was traded away to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the final run of his career.
It's safe to say that Commodore is not over his history with Babcock, and if they were to ever meet in public it could get pretty ugly.
