Former Tar Heel Seventh Woods Officially Reveals He's Transferred to South Carolina
By Charles Nason
Former North Carolina guard Seventh Woods is officially heading home to Columbia, South Carolina. The 20-year-old, who spent the last three years with the Tar Heels, announced on his Instagram story that he'll be spending his final year of eligibility at the University of South of Carolina.
Woods announced back in April that he planned on transferring from UNC just a few days after guards Cole Anthony and Anthony Harris committed to be Tar Heels.
Woods was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina and attended the Hammond School there, as well, for high school. Michigan and Gonzaga were also in the running for Woods on the transfer market before he decided to return home.
In what became his final season at North Carolina, Woods appeared in 34 games, averaging 10.8 minutes per game, averaging just 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. Now playing for his hometown university, Woods will have a chance to seriously improve upon those numbers in his final year, after sitting out one season, per NCAA rules.
South Carolina's 2018-19 season was defined by wins over ranked Auburn and Mississippi State teams in the regular season, along with a close loss to Auburn in the SEC tournament.
Woods will practice with the team and try to motivate the Gamecocks to an NCAA tournament berth, after the team missed out on the dance last season.
The senior guard stated in his original Instagram post, "My three years here at UNC has been nothing short of amazing. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and the best is yet to come!"
We tend to agree, a homecoming is always best.
