Former Vikings Coach Mike Priefer Savages Minnesota With Latest Quote
By Zack Jiang
The Cleveland Browns made multiple splashes this offseason, headlined by their blockbuster trade with the Giants for Odell Beckham Jr. The team is getting hyped up as potentially one of the best of the AFC next season, as the positive buzz around the team has skyrocketed.
Another newcomer for next season is Mike Priefer, the new special teams coordinator who came over from the Minnesota Vikings. As the Browns are preparing for the new season at OTAs, Priefer noticed all the coverage of his new team and decided to use it an opportunity to take a shot at his old one.
Jeez. was that really necessary, Mike?
Priefer got his first NFL gig with the Vikes when he became their special teams coordinator back in 2011. He worked with the franchise for eight years before deciding to work for his home-town Browns. He's clearly comfortable with this development.
On paper, Priefer is exactly where he should want to be. Cleveland looks primed for a breakout season, while the Vikings missed the playoffs last year despite splashing huge cash for Kirk Cousins, and are generally trending in the wrong direction.
The Browns are far from a sure thing, however, and the Vikings did make the NFC title game just 16 months ago. The tables can quickly turn if a few things go wrong, so Priefer might want to hold back on anymore comments before his new-look team actually hits the field. For now, though, he's not wrong to feel giddy.
