Former Warriors NBA Finals Champion Shaun Livingston Announces Retirement
By Jerry Trotta
The departures of Kevin Durant and Andrew Iguodala earlier in the offseason sent shockwaves up and down the Golden State Warriors front office. In fact, the transactions diverted attention away from the exit of another dynasty mainstay: Shaun Livingston.
A few short months after the Dubs opted to waive the 33-year-old point guard in search of a younger (and cheaper) option, Livingston took to Twitter and Instagram on Friday to announce his retirement after 15 seasons in the NBA.
In truth, the former No. 4 overall pick wasn't supposed to be here. Most pundits and doctors wrote his career off during the 2006-2007 campaign when he came down awkwardly after a missed layup attempt and snapped his leg in half in arguably the most gruesome injury in sports history.
What followed was a missed season comprised of recovery and rehab, stops with NINE different squads (and one D-League team), and being waived four times before emerging as a pivotal component off the bench for the 2015 champion Warriors.
The rest is truly history.
Livingston went on to become one of the most trusted players for head coach Steve Kerr, often inserted to mend an offensive rut or even as a defensive stopper to disrupt the opposing team's hottest scorer.
He finishes his career as a three-time NBA champ and a Bay Area legend. Enjoy retirement, Livingston.
