Francisco Cervelli Creates Pittsburgh Media Controversy After Denying Report He's Done Catching
By Parker White
Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli has been out since May 25 with a concussion after taking a broken bat to the chin. Unfortunately, it was Cervelli's sixth concussion and it appeared his days behind the plate were over.
Even Cervelli seemed to be looking forward to playing another position. But then Cervelli denied it and felt like he was misquoted by Dejan Kovacevic of DK Pittsburgh Sports.
Cervelli may or may not be telling the truth about his denial of Kovacevic's story that has the Pirates catcher being quoted, saying, "That’s enough. This time is different. I can’t live like this.”
You hate to call anyone a liar, especially an athlete in regards to an injury they are dealing with, but that quote seems pretty straightforward. Even Kovacevic has come out and backed up his reporting.
In the end, it comes down to what the Pirates and Cervelli come up with when he's ready to return. This isn't the first time the idea of Cervelli moving to another position has come up, and it'll be interesting to see what the two sides agree to do moving forward.
