Frank Reich Actually Said Philip Rivers is a Better Fit for the Colts Than Tom Brady and We Might Break Something
By Michael Luciano
The Indianapolis Colts, rumored to be a potential landing spot for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady at the beginning of free agency, decided to sign a different immobile, aging quarterback when they added former Los Angeles Chargers legend Philip Rivers.
Head coach Frank Reich, who coached Rivers in Los Angeles, claims that he was actually a better fit for the Indy offense based off of the last two years of tape.
Yes, he really said that. I get you want to back your guy, but come on now.
To be fair to Reich and his staff, some of Rivers best years came between 2013 and 2015. In 2013, Reich was his quarterback coach. In 2014, he was promoted to offensive coordinator while Nick Sirianni, the current OC in Indianapolis, took over QB coach duties.
If anyone can get the best out of Rivers, it's them. Unfortunately, Rivers, famously unathletic and immobile, is coming off of a 2020 season where he trailed only Baker Mayfield and Jameis Winston in interceptions.
Rivers might have had some of his best seasons under the watchful eyes of Reich and Sirianni in San Diego, but that 2019 campaign was nothing short of alarming. To suggest that he is going to be a better fit than a guy who put up 24 TDs and eight picks in an objectively poor season by his standards is nothing short of ridiculous.
