Frank Vogel Said it’s ‘Possible’ DeMarcus Cousins Plays for Lakers This Season
By Jerry Trotta
Could NBA devotees actually be treated to the sheer spectacle of witnessing LeBron James, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins take to the hardwood at the same time for the Los Angeles Lakers this season?
According to head coach Frank Vogel, that reality, which appeared to be shattered when Boogie tore his ACL during an offseason workout in Las Vegas, is not out of the realm of possibility.
The injury was suffered in August and subsequent updates made it seem like Cousins was destined to sit out the entire campaign, including what figures to be a deep playoff run.
If Boogie does manage to beat the general 10-month timetable for return from ACL injuries, it's virtually impossible to imagine anything more than a role off the bench for him.
Still, a limited Cousins is better than no Cousins at all, and he could prove to be a lethal weapon for the Lakers come May, especially since many labeled his return a pipe dream.
In the meantime, Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee will continue to split minutes at the center position. For the year, the two veterans are combining to average 14 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game.
