Freddie Kitchens Defends Antonio Callaway's Character After 4-Game Suspension

Antonio Callaway was suspended four games by the NFL on Friday for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The second-year wideout plans to appeal the moratorium and is eligible to practice in all preseason practices and games.

Browns buffs will be quick to remember that Callaway is less than a year removed from being cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license...while having weapons (with ammunition) in his vehicle.

However, all those concerning narratives apparently aren't enough to deter Cleveland head coach Freddie Kitchens from losing faith in the Florida product.

“I like the kid. I think he’s a good person," said the first-year HC. “Sometimes people lump these sort of things into being a bad person. This is a great kid, so we’re going to support him until he proves us otherwise. He knows what he has to do, though.”

What's even more shocking is that general manager John Dorsey also came out to publicly defend Callaway's character.

“We’re disappointed in Antonio,’’ Dorsey said in a release. "We will continue to support him as long as he remains committed to taking advantage of the resources made available to him by our club and the league to help him become the best version of himself as a person first and foremost.”

How many more chances until Callaway actually makes himself "better"? Let's not forget that he also had a misdemeanor marijuana conviction in 2017 and was forced into a substance abuse program after his infamous dilute urine sample at the 2018 Combine.

It's one thing to hold your players accountable. But to so easily defend Callaway's actions (given his shady history) is just a BAD look for Kitchens and Dorsey.
