Freddie Kitchens' Response to Browns Penalty Problems Show a Total Lack of Responsibility

The Cleveland Browns mostly held their own against the New England Patriots on the road on Sunday (seriously), but were undone by some costly penalties and more buffoonery from head coach Freddie Kitchens.

Kitchens took particular exception with the 13 penalties the Browns racked up, as compared to just four for a well-coached New England side (as always).

"I’ve never once, in 20 years of coaching, coached somebody to take a penalty. Except in a situation, where it would help you clock-wise, clock management-wise. So, I don’t know," Kitchens assessed, after the contest.

Maybe you do coach penalties, though, Freddie. Or, at least, you don't coach how to avoid getting penalized.

While Cleveland has only played seven games, they lead the NFL with 70 penalties. On average, they pile up around 84 penalty yards per game. No wonder this team is running on fumes at 2-5.

Kitchens looks totally lost on the sideline, and the Browns are a rudderless mess once again, decreasing in effectiveness at every turn, especially with regards to their discipline. The fact that Kitchens managed to pile up a 2-5 record with all this talent around him is borderline astounding.

And the penalties could be the coup de grace on the whole regressive experience.
