3 Free Agent Targets Cowboys Must Focus on Now That NFL CBA Has Passed
By Jack Murphy
Right before the start of free agency, the NLFPA's members agreed to the collective bargaining agreement proposal submitted by the league. While the biggest change brought in the new CBA is a 17-game regular season, players are guaranteed to receive 48% of league revenues in 2021, an increase from 47% this year, along with a salary cap increase of approximately $10 million. Now that more money is available for spending on free agency, the Dallas Cowboys should target these three players to help them make a run at the Super Bowl.
3. Eric Ebron
With the expectation Jason Witten will leave the Dallas Cowboys in free agency, the team will need to make moves this offseason. While they can try to find a replacement through the NFL Draft, the Cowboys should focus on Eric Ebron, who can be a dangerous receiving threat, as he recorded 13 touchdowns in 2019. While going to the draft for talent is an uncertainty, Ebron offers a higher floor and less risk at the tight end position.
2. Robby Anderson
While Amari Cooper still needs a contract extension and simply must be re-signed, Dallas should still pursue wide receiver Robby Anderson. He had some great games with the Jets, but never developed a winning rapport with Sam Darnold. If and when the Cowboys re-sign Cooper, Anderson could shine as a second option -- and even if disaster strikes and Cooper walks away, Anderson would be one of the best available options at wide receiver to salvage things in Big D.
1. Jadeveon Clowney
It is uncertain just exactly how much the Cowboys will have to spend this offseason, as Dak Prescott also needs an extension in addition to Cooper. However, Dallas is still trying to become a title contender in the near future. While the Cowboys already have a very good front seven, adding a star-level talent like edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney would make them top-tier. Clowney will be expensive, but if the Cowboys pair him up with their defense of Jaylon Smith, Leighton Vander Esch and Demarcus Lawrence, they will surely look like an attractive pick in the NFC. If the Cowboys franchise tag Prescott and still have the money to spend, Clowney would be a risky but headline-stealing acquisition.
