Further Details Emerge on Mason Crosby's Cap Hit With Packers for 2020
By Michael Luciano
Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst locked down one of the team's many ace special teamers when the team signed veteran kicker Mason Crosby to a three-year contract extension.
They didn't end up having to break the bank in order to keep him. Crosby will only count for $4 million against the cap this year, as he received a $3 million signing bonus. While expensive for a kicker, Crosby easily could have commanded more money.
Given how good he was last year, that is a pretty solid deal for Green Bay.
Crosby was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Colorado, and the Packers haven't had to worry about a kicker ever since. Crosby, who helped them win a Super Bowl in 2011, has made an even 81 percent of his kicks in his career, with last year's 91.7 percent serving as his new career best at the age of 35.
Crosby has been a rock solid kicker that has eliminated all doubt and uncertainty at that position for Green Bay for over a decade on some excellent Packers teams. It's nice to finally see him get compensated as such.
