Gary Kubiak Reportedly Taking Over as Vikings Offensive Coordinator
By Michael Luciano
The Minnesota Vikings lost offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski to the Cleveland Browns when he took their head coaching job, but they didn't even have to go outside of the organization to find his replacement.
Gary Kubiak, who was on the staff last year as a senior advisor, has been named Minnesota's offensive coordinator for 2020, replacing the departed Stefanski.
Klint Kubiak, Gary's oldest son, will serve as Minnesota's quarterbacks coach.
Kubiak, who was John Elway's backup for nearly a decade in Denver, made his name as head coach of the Houston Texans, where he's the all-time winningest coach in franchise history. In 2015, Kubiak was named head coach of the Broncos, and he helped win a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning at the helm.
Kubiak was named assistant head coach of the Vikings last year, but the amount of downfield shots and outside zone runs showed that Kubiak had a big hand in crafting their offensive scheme that helped win them a playoff game.
Kubiak was responsible for large chunks of the scheme Stefanski put into place last season. Browns fans should really be sweating their choice of head coach if Kubiak keeps Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook performing at an elite level.
