Gary Sanchez Got Booed by Yankee Fans After Striking Out With Bases Loaded in 1st Inning
By Scott Rogust
The New York Yankees fan base have been frustrated by a couple members of the postseason roster lately. The first being reliever Adam Ottavino, and the other is catcher Gary Sanchez, who after Game 3 of the ALCS is batting a measly .095 in the playoffs.
Sanchez had the opportunity of a lifetime in Game 4, as Houston Astros starting pitcher Zack Greinke walked three batters, and had the bases loaded walking to the plate. This was his chance.
The struggling backstop responded to such opportunity by striking out on three pitches, thus ending the inning. While walking to the dugout, Sanchez was apparently booed by the hometown fans filling Yankee Stadium.
Given his play throughout the postseason, the Yankee faithful have had enough.
But don't tell manager Aaron Boone that, as he continued to put his faith in Sanchez, saying he's one pitch away from being "locked in." That pitch has yet to come for Sanchez, who's swinging at throws well-below his knees.
After that at-bat, "El Kraken" is now 2-for-22 with 11 strikeouts this postseason.
If the struggles continue, Gary Sanchez will continue to hear the boos, and will likely see himself slip deeper into the batting order. Still, there's time for the young backstop to turn things around.
