Gary Sanchez Sends Heartfelt Message to Healthcare Workers Helping With Coronavirus Epidemic
By Michael Luciano
The coronavirus pandemic sweeping the country has shut live sports down for over two weeks and delayed the start of the 2020 MLB season. While that is certainly a bitter pill to swallow for sports fans, New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is here to give us all a little perspective.
Sanchez pleaded for all of us to thank the healthcare workers trying to control and limit the spread of the virus in order allow us to resume our non-quarantine lives and get baseball back up and running.
Sanchez, who hit .232 with 34 home runs in 2019, has a message here that fans of all 30 MLB teams can get behind.
With the league insisting that they won't start back up until independent health officials determine that MLB games will not be a place that the COVID-19 virus can spread, all we as fans can do to accelerate the return of baseball while helping ease the work these medical professionals need to undertake is stay away from each other and practice proper hygiene.
No group of working people in this country have more on their plate right now than health care workers trying diligently to prevent the spread of this virus while treating the infected. They deserve the same reverence we reserve for athletes, as they are out here saving lives. Sanchez couldn't have said it any better.
