Gary Sanchez Leaves Game Against Tigers in Likely Latest Case of Ridiculous Injury for Yankees
By Adam Weinrib
Hey, New York Yankee fans who were only just adjusting to Edwin Encarnacion leaving Thursday's early game with an oblique issue: have we got a nightcap for you!
Gary Sanchez, after playing three innings of catcher in the rain and sprinting to second after a walk, has left this contest in favor of Kyle Higashioka. And if it's not precautionary or minor, Yankee fans have every reason to be furious with management, from the head honchos to Aaron Boone.
It's groin tightness for El Gary.
No game is "meaningless," sure. Of course! The team wants homefield advantage over the Astros, desperately. But the odds were low that Gary's presence in this game would've been what swung it in the Yankees' direction, away from the 100-loss Tigers. If they lose this contest, they were always meant to lose it.
If they won it with Higashioka behind the plate? That seems possible! Seems like something the team should've explored.
Instead, the Yanks have descended deeper into hell. Stay tuned for prudent updates.
