George Kittle Leaving Shannon Sharpe off His Top 5 TEs List is Pure Insanity
By Jerry Trotta
Since entering the NFL three years ago in 2017, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has established himself as a perennial world-beater. The 26-year-old has posted back-to-back seasons of logging at least 85 catches, over 1,000 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Though some analysts might not consider Kittle the "best" tight end just yet, he's surely the most complete player at the position. There might not be a better blocking TE in the league.
Taking all of this into consideration, it's fair to assume that Kittle is well informed on the greats to come before him, right? Not exactly. The two-time Pro Bowler's all-time top five list is downright shocking.
We love Kittle, but this list is a travesty. Rob Gronkowski, Tony Gonzalez, and Antonio Gates are in a class of their own, but Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe HAS to be the first name that follows those three.
Sharpe is one of the most decorated tight ends ever. The former longtime Denver Bronco was a three-time Super Bowl champion, a four-time All-Pro, and an eight-time Pro Bowler. For his career, he compiled 815 receptions (fourth all-time) for 10,060 yards (fourth all-time) and 62 touchdowns.
As expected, Kittle got ripped apart on Twitter.
We couldn't agree more.
No disrespect to Dallas Clark, but he isn't sniffing the Hall of Fame, and Travis Kelce is still in the prime of his career. How does he qualify?
All-time lists almost always create division, but most folks would agree that Kittle's is a new level of insane for not including Sharpe.
