Georgia DL Devonte Wyatt Reportedly Arrested on Three Separate Charges
By Jerry Trotta
If this news is any indication that Georgia is about to experience an offseason similar to last year's unrelenting fiasco, well, head coach Kirby Smart better act fast and get his players in line.
Bulldogs senior defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt was arrested and jailed on Monday night on three separate misdemeanor charges, including property damage, family violence, and trespassing.
Wyatt, a regular starter for Georgia in 2019, was booked into Clarke County Jail around midnight with a bond reportedly set at $1,500.
According to a police report collected by the Athens Banner-Herald, Wyatt and an un-named female were tangled in a war of words last weekend, one that led to the Bulldogs pass rusher kicking the female's door in several times to force it open.
It goes without saying how poor of a look that is for Wyatt, who was reportedly still in jail as of Wednesday morning.
Smart released a statement upon learning of the news.
"I’m disappointed in the misconduct that is outlined in the incident report," said the 44-year-old HC. "This is not indicative of the behavior we expect from our student-athletes who represent the University of Georgia and our football program. We will address it internally in the appropriate way."
Wyatt was a star for the Bulldogs this past season, logging 30 tackles and 27 quarterback hurries, good for second most on the team. We're not sure what his arrest means in terms of his future with the program, and we'll have updates on this development as they are made available.
