Recruiting Dead Period Already Impacting Georgia Bulldogs

The Georgia Bulldogs' 2021 recruiting cycle isn't off to the greatest of starts, as Kirby Smart and Co. are ranked No. 17 in the country per 247sports. The Dawgs have only three commits at this juncture, and only one 5-star commit.

As college football goes into a self-imposted dead recruiting period thanks to the coronavirus outbreak, Georgia is limited in how much ground they can make up. While the Dawgs are in play for three of 2021's top-10 recruits, their inability to make headway could very well cost them in the long run. Not to mention, they just lost one of the top members of their recruiting staff in Dominique Nwoko to Miami.

Georgia is still in play for James Williams, Tony Grimes and Amarius Mims. Landing all three seems unlikely, but Mims at the very least could be a probable addition, given he's an in-state target.

Nonetheless, in the span of the last two days the Dawgs have received more questionable news for the 2021 class, as WR target Agiye Hall pushed back his decision and Troy Stellato left Georgia out of his top-2. Normally Smart and Co. would respond by hitting the recruiting trail to sure up any areas of weakness, but that's not a possibility at the moment.

The addition of Mims, for one, would put Georgia back in the conversation of the recruiting elite, especially if Smart could pull it off during a so-called dead period. For now, though, Bulldogs fans have every right to be a little nervous.
