3 Biggest Recruiting Busts in Recent Georgia Football History
By Michael Luciano

Owners of one of the best recruiting classes in the 2020 cycle, Kirby Smart and Georgia have continued to bring in the best prospects from across the country like Mark Richt and Vince Dooley did before him. Unfortunately, earning that shiny 5-star designation doesn't guarantee that you'll bring the house down in Athens, a statement that these three former star prospects proved emphatically correct.
3. DE Ray Drew
Drew was a 5-star defensive end that looked like a future Pro Bowler. Unfortunately, the strength that he showed in high school never popped on tape, and his lack of explosion off the line really hurt him. Attitude issues plagued Drew throughout his whole college career. He since gained weight and switched to defensive tackle, and he has played the last four seasons in Canada with the Montreal Alouettes.
2. QB Joe Tereshinski
Tereshinski's grandfather, uncle, and father all played at Georgia, and his dad was an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Bulldogs. Tereshinski figured to be the next great Georgia quarterback, but he never got on the field. He threw just four touchdowns and four interceptions during his career as a Bulldog, eventually losing out on quarterback competitions to DJ Shockley and Matthew Stafford. Tereshinski has since become a coach, as he has been the wide receivers coach at Charlotte since 2012.
1. S Tray Matthews
Matthews was supposed go be THE MAN that would transform the entire Georgia defense given his speed for a 215 pound safety, but he struggled to keep his act under control. Matthews played one up-and-down season for Richt, and was later kicked off the team for a violation of rules. Matthews then became an even more hated figure in Athens when he transferred to Auburn and became a three-year starter for the Tigers before a brief stint in the NFL.
