Georgia's Potential 2020 QB Depth Chart if Jake Fromm Goes Pro
By Scott Rogust
The Georgia Bulldogs are facing a bit of a predicament. The team is already losing top offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson to the NFL Draft.
Perhaps more importantly, Georgia is awaiting the decision of starting quarterback Jake Fromm as to whether he'll go pro or return for his senior season.
If Fromm were to hypothetically declare, here's how the potential 2020 quarterback depth chart shapes up.
Georgia 2020 QB Depth Chart
- Stetson Bennett
- D'Wan Mathis
- Carson Beck
- Nathan Priestley
- John Seter
Obviously, the next man up for the Bulldogs is Stetson Bennett, who's assumed backup duties this season. Bennett actually made an appearance in the SEC Championship Game after Fromm left briefly due to an injury. Considering he's QB2 on the depth chart currently, he'd assume starter duties, at least in the spring.
Next up is D'Wan Mathis, who's leaps and bounds a better all around talent than Bennett. The thing is, he's got a bit of learning to do, considering he had brain surgery this past May. Given some time, he could usurp Bennett next season if that experiment fails.
In terms of the 2020 recruiting class, Carson Beck is the only quarterback commit for head coach Kirby Smart. The 4-star, pro style signal caller is unlikely to be given the reins of the starting offense right away. Beck is unlikely to have any shot of getting significant playing time in 2020.
Then, there are the two quarterbacks already on the roster in Nathan Priestley and John Seter. Don't expect them to take the field at all next season.
Again, this is all hypothetical, but Bulldogs fans should be prepared of what "Life After Jake Fromm" will look like in Athens.
