Georgia QB Depth Chart if JT Daniels Transfers to Athens
By Michael Luciano
After a debilitating ACL injury and eventually getting Wally Pipp'd by Kedon Slovis, USC quarterback JT Daniels is looking for a potential transfer destination to restart his career.
Buzz from 247 claims that Daniels is considering joining Kirby Smart and Georgia. Daniels will apply for a waiver to become instantly eligible.
Daniels will likely need to sit behind Jamie Newman in Athens before he becomes the starter, however.
Georgia 2020 QB Depth Chart
Jamie Newman
JT Daniels
Dwan Mathis
Carson Beck
Stetson Bennett
Nathan Priestly
John Seter
The Wake Forest transfer remains the starter, as the 6-4, 230 pound dual threat with a howitzer of a right arm is getting some first-round consideration for the 2021 NFL Draft, and benching him for Daniels would be a very unwise move.
Mathis, who didn't play last year due to a cyst on his brain, has been cleared for contact, and he should be the favorite to take over QB3 duties due to the 6-6 former 4-star insane athletic ability and arm talent.
Beck, a 4-star pocket passer, could be a starter down the line, but will struggle to see the field as a freshman. Bennett was last year's backup, but his ceiling is considerably lower than those other four given his limited arm talent. Priestly and Seter barely played last year, and shouldn't be considered threats to steal snaps from Newman or Daniels.
Daniels might not start right away, but he could give Georgia another pro prospect at quarterback should Newman declare for the NFL Draft.
