VIDEO: Gerrit Cole Claims He Had No Knowledge of Astros Cheating Scandal in 2018
By Scott Rogust
The talk of the baseball world is the self-inflicted gunshot wound the Houston Astros sustained in the form of an "apology" press conference. Former Astros players have spoken their minds on the whole sign-stealing scandal. Some, like Marwin Gonzalez and Charlie Morton expressed regret of not stopping the scheme. On Thursday, New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole claims he had no knowledge of cheating in the Astros organization during the 2018 season and has nothing to address.
Earlier this year, commissioner Rob Manfred concluded his investigation in the sign-stealing controversy. In his report, however, the league noted that the cheating not only occurred during the 2017 season, but the 2018 campaign as well.
It's interesting to note this, considering Cole was acquired by the Astros well-before the start of that year's regular season. Not knowing anything went on during the time seems a bit...implausible.
The Astros ordeal isn't going to go away anytime soon, considering the lack of empathy from team owner Jim Crane. Could this possibly spurn a larger investigation down the line? Who knows.
Either way, Cole is standing firm on his stance that he witness nothing suspicious during the 2018 season.
