Gerrit Cole Comments on Rapport With Gary Sanchez After Making Yankees Debut
By Jerry Trotta

New York Yankees fans were clamoring for a Gerrit Cole masterpiece in his first start with the club on Monday.
It's Spring Training, therefore Cole only worked one inning, but he looked as good as advertised, striking out two batters across an even 20 pitches. His fastball even looked in midseason form as it was consistently clocked at 97 mph, reaching 98 at one point.
After tossing his frame, Cole commented on his rapport with catcher Gary Sanchez, and he didn't deny that there's still work to be done until he and his new backstop are 100% in sync.
Deleted that tweet about Cole and Sánchez reading each other’s minds because it’s being interpreted in a negative fashion. Cole said he and Gary worked well together tonight. A pitcher and catcher need time to get to know each other. It’s spring. training. Please. Chill. Out.

As Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports, Cole and Sanchez were an effective tandem in his debut inning, and, it's essential to note, that their relationship should only improve from here on out. It's impossible to anticipate a new pitcher-catcher tandem to be completely on the same page from the get go.
Cole obviously isn't known to be electric behind the mic, but he's incredibly authentic. Yankee fans need not worry about his rapport with Sanchez -- this was just the start of what should be a long working relationship.

Whatever the case, Cole's quote proves that he and Sanchez have a ways to go in the affinity department, but that's to be expected.
