Gerrit Cole's Wife Amy Posts Emotional Instagram Tribute to Her Husband's Yankees 'Dream'
By Scott Rogust
Gerrit Cole's boyhood dream became a reality this month.
After hitting free agency, the team he grew up idolizing, the New York Yankees, handed him a blank check to be their ace for the next nine years.
This Wednesday, Cole and his wife Amy were introduced by the Yankees to New York City, their new home. Over a day after the press conference, Amy sent out an emotional tribute to her husband on Instagram for accomplishing his "childhood dream," celebrating every piece of the remarkable day.
Joining the Yankees was Cole's destiny.
Cole was spotted holding a sign that read "Yankee Fan Today, Tomorrow, Forever" during the 2001 World Series. Seven years later, Cole got selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft.
Yet the right handed pitcher opted to attend UCLA instead, where he ironically met Amy, the sister of San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford.
The Yankees pursued him from the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017, but got cold feet when asked to part ways with prospects, losing out to the Houston Astros.
General manager Brian Cashman finally caught his white whale in Cole this offseason for a hefty $324 million, but with zero regrets. Everything came full circle, with Cole showcasing his infamous Yankee sign for all to see earlier this week.
Gerrit (and Amy) Cole are officially part of the New York Yankees family. But it's always been that way, hasn't it?
