Gerrit Cole's Yankees Introductory Press Conference Will Reportedly Be 'Wednesday at Earliest'
By Chris Pyo
Gerrit Cole has officially arrived in New York City ahead of his Yankees introductory press conference, and he's looking as serious as ever.
Fans are impatiently waiting for him to be officially anointed as a Yankee, but according to beat reporter Bryan Hoch, that won't be coming until at least Wednesday.
Are the Yankees giving Cole some time to mourn the inevitable loss of his hair and beard? He'll be trimming everything before he's allowed to don a No. 45 Yankee uniform, as per tradition.
More realistically, the Yankees are probably trying to figure out how to clear two more roster spots in order to fit Cole and Brett Gardner on their 40-man roster. It remains to be seen whether they'll option some fringe-level players down to the minors, or if they'll be able to make a trade and offload some contracts before Wednesday.
This means Cole will have another two days to check out New York City before newspapers get to mass publish photos of his first time wearing a Yankees hat.
At the very least, Yankee fans can smile knowing that their "white whale" has officially arrived in town, ready to deliver a Yankees championship for the first time since 2009.
