Giancarlo Stanton Could Report to Tampa Ahead of Yankees' Upcoming Homestand
By Michael Luciano
Giancarlo Stanton's second season as a New York Yankee has been a total wash, as injuries have limited him only to nine games this season, with the likes of Cameron Maybin and Mike Tauchman picking up his at-bats.
Stanton's latest injury was a PCL strain that has kept him out since late June. Before the Yankees took on the Seattle Mariners, Stanton did some agility drills. Bryan Hoch reports Stanton could take on-field batting practice for the first time since he went down with his injury and even report to Tampa, Fla. during the Yankees' upcoming homestand.
In nine games this year, he is 9-for-31, a .290 average, with one home run and seven RBI.
While some Yankees fans don't want to upset the apple cart and take at-bats away from two players who are having career years in Maybin and Tauchman, there is no denying that adding one of the most powerful hitters in the game to this lineup would make playoff and non-playoff teams alike shudder at the thought of facing them.
Stanton doesn't appear to be ready just yet, but the mammoth slugger should be all squared away and ready to go for late September and the playoffs.
