Giants Activate Buster Posey From Injured List to Start Against Padres
By Brian Cass
The San Francisco Giants have struggled to stay relevant in the NL West race this year, finding themselves at the bottom of the division with a 27-38 record. But they're bound to get a boost in play now that one of their cornerstone players is back in the lineup.
After being placed on the injured list on June 5 with a right hamstring strain, catcher Buster Posey is set to be back in the lineup Wednesday night when they take on the San Diego Padres.
The Giants catcher ran the bases on Tuesday and resumed hitting without any major setbacks, so manager Bruce Bochy felt comfortable activating him. Catcher Aramis Garcia, who was brought up to provide some depth once Posey went down, will now be optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.
Posey has been a consistent bright spot for the ailing Giants. This season, he's batting .257 with 3 homers and 18 RBI.
His insertion back into the lineup should help the Giants offense, which ranks near the bottom of the MLB on all major batting categories.
