Giants and Wilmer Flores Reportedly Agree to Multiyear Contract
By Brendan Balsamo
Although there's no room for him on an already stacked New York Mets roster in 2020, it will definitely break Mets fans' hearts to hear that Wilmer Flores has agreed to a deal with a team for the 2020 season, and that deal doesn't involve a Flushing reunion.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, Flores and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a multiyear contract Tuesday afternoon.
Flores has been a quietly great hitter annually, as in 89 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2018, he slashed .317/.361/.487 in a very talented pitching division in the NL West. He won't be leaving the division, either, instead just going further west to the bay.
Flores became a Mets legend in 2015 when he came out on the field in tears after finding out he had been traded mid-game from the team he had been with since the age of 16 in 2007. The trade fell through, and Flores went on to hit a walk-off home run against their division rivals in the Washington Nationals one day later to cement his cult hero status. Later in the year, Flores became the starting shortstop in their World Series run in 2015 after the brutal Ruben Tejada injury. He became a free agent after the 2018 season and wasn't re-signed.
The Giants just got a great depth piece for very cheap in Flores.
