Giants' Darius Slayton Recruits Disgruntled Lions Star Darius Slay to New York on Twitter
Detroit Lions defensive back Darius Slay is in the final year of his contract in 2020. The deal has paid him over $12 million annually and the team should be making a decision this offseason to either offer him an extension or trade him to avoid letting him walk for nothing.
Slay has gone back and forth on social media quoting tweets about his potential value. He tweeted this when a fan suggested taking a deal even lower than the one he is currently on:
This tweet was apparently seen by New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton, who despite a similar name is indeed a different person. We swear. Slayton wants Slay in New York where he can get paid what he desires.
The Giants do have a boatload of cap space and can afford a proper deal to make Slay the top corner in town. Slay is a three-time Pro Bowler who can help add experience to a team seeking improvement in every single facet of the game.
At the same time, having Slay and Slayton on the same team would certainly excite broadcasters seeking any sort of pun to share on the air.
