Giants Reportedly Tell DeAndre Baker to Stay Away From Virtual Meetings in Latest Bad Sign
By Michael Luciano
New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker's character might have inadvertently brought about the end of his stint with the G-Men, just one year after he ranked as one of the team's three first-rounders.
After he and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar were arrested for their involvement in an armed robbery in Florida, the Giants appear to be clearing a path for the organization to cut Baker loose, as they have told him not to join in on any virtual meetings for the time being, and instead focus on his legal battle.
Based on his play on the field as a rookie, we're not sure he wasn't already missing out on meetings.
Baker allowed six touchdowns without recording an interception as a rookie, giving opposing quarterbacks a 116.2 passer rating when targeting him. Last year, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees had a 116.3 passer rating. Throw the ball at Baker, and you turn into Brees.
After they selected a potential franchise quarterback at No. 6 overall in Daniel Jones and an expert run-stuffer in Dexter Lawrence at No. 17, the Giants' 30th pick in that draft faces a very uncertain future under new head coach Joe Judge.
After just one season, Baker's inability to control his emotions and follow the law might have ended the former Georgia star's promising young career with the Giants.
