Giants Hire Dolphins DC Patrick Graham to Same Position After Rough Season With Dolphins
By Adam Weinrib

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge clearly isn't afraid to stick up for the people throughout this league who he believes in.
After just a few days on the job, Judge has hired his preferred defensive coordinator: Patrick Graham, who held the title in Miami last year, and led a high-effort unit that didn't generally yield results.

Graham was a Giants coach a few years back, taking charge of the defensive line in 2016 and 2017. Prior to that, he was paired with Judge on Bill Belichick's Patriots staff for four seasons.
The Miami unit he captained last season finished 30th in the NFL in total defense, and was last in the league in scoring, allowing 30.9 points per game.
There certainly was a talent deficiency last season for Graham to work with, but that's the case in East Rutherford, too, pending a change in free agent spending this offseason.
The #Giants have a new DC. They spent the least amount of money on defense in the entire league ($46.8 million, per OverTheCap) last season. (Raiders 2nd least at $54.5M, Ravens most at $94.5M). James Bettcher joins Pat Shurmur on the scapegoat block. https://t.co/CkXLExITrp

There wasn't much to like about James Bettcher's personnel OR attitude, and it seems this infusion of Graham's energy will come concurrent with a complete overhaul of the unit.
Saints coach (and former Jets first-rounder) Aaron Glenn was reportedly under consideration, as well.
