Giants Managerial Search Reportedly Down to 3 Final Candidates
By Chris Pyo
At the end of the 2019 season, Bruce Bochy retired as the manager of the San Francisco Giants after 13 years and three World Series championships.
The Giants have been actively searching for a replacement skipper over the past few weeks, and now the number of managerial candidates has been whittled down to three. Per Jon Morosi, the finalists to take over the reins in San Francisco are Gabe Kapler, Pedro Grifol and Joe Espada.
Kapler was only just let go as the manager of the Phillies after a pair of disappointing seasons. The former catcher spent 12 years in the big leagues and has two seasons of managing under his belt.
Pedro Grifol has been with the Kansas City Royals for the past seven years, most recently serving as their catching and quality control coach. He formerly served as the director of minor league operations for the Seattle Mariners.
Finally, Joe Espada's name has been all over the rumor mill as a possible candidate for numerous jobs, including the Mets and the Cubs. Espada has been the bench coach for the Houston Astros since 2018 and is one of the brightest minds in the sport.
Whoever general manager Farhan Zaidi chooses as the next manager of the Giants, they'll have a tall task in replacing Bochy. It should only be a matter of time until the decision is finalized.
