Giants Hire Gabe Kapler as New Manager
By Scott Rogust
The San Francisco Giants had the unenviable task of finding a quality replacement for the retiring Bruce Bochy. After an extensive search, the Giants announced their new hire on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the Giants have named Gabe Kapler as their new manager.
Kapler was just fired by the Philadelphia Phillies after two seasons, but it didn't take long for him to land back on his feet. He has long been considered among the favorites to land the Giants job.
Kapler has history with Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, dating back to 2014, where he served alongside him as the Los Angeles Dodgers Director of Player Development.
In fact, Zaidi considered Kapler for the Dodgers managerial gig back in 2015, before electing to hire Dave Roberts.
Kapler fizzled out in Philly after two underwhelming seasons. The additions of Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto this offseason were expected to lift the club to new heights, but instead they finished with a .500 record and failed to reach the playoffs.
Even following an average tenure with the Phillies, the San Francisco Giants have the utmost faith that Gabe Kapler can help bring the franchise back to their winning ways.
