3 Things Giants Fans Need to Know About 2020 First-Round Pick Patrick Bailey
By Tyler Kemp

Patrick Bailey, out of NC State, became the newest San Francisco Giant after being selected in the first round of 2020's MLB Draft. While many San Francisco fans have questions about why Bailey was the choice being that they believe Joey Bart is Buster Posey’s heir apparent at catcher, Bailey still has a lot of tools that translate very well to the majors. Here are a few tidbits that Giants fans should know about their first-round pick.
3. He's Got a Very High Baseball IQ
Patrick Bailey was so eager to learn defensive calls he pressured his high school coach to write up a book of them in August. He had a college video scouting program for coaches installed on his laptop. He is my favorite baseball nerd I will never coverhttps://t.co/yZ0T9EjRti

Bailey is a smart and mature young man. As a freshman at NC State, he was a member of the All-ACC Academic Team. Mentioned in James Fegan’s above tweet, Bailey wanted to learn defensive calls as a high schooler. In addition, he used a college video scouting program on his personal laptop. Bailey eats, sleeps and breathes baseball, and his mind is always working which is a plus.
2. He's a Leader

Bailey has competed at the highest level throughout his baseball career. He played for USA Baseball’s 18U team as a senior in high school as well as the Collegiate National Team following his freshman and sophomore years in college. He knows how to be a leader of men being that he has done it at such a young age. With some grooming, he will be able to do the same thing in the big leagues. This is great news for Giants fans everywhere.

Patty Barrels is WEST COAST bound. https://t.co/PgapSXEkj4
The movement that has been the rally cry in the MLB is “let the kids play,” and not a lot of draft prospects embody the statement more than Patty Barrels. As a switch hitter, Bailey’s power makes him a great choice for San Fran. In Wolfpack history, Bailey is the only player to have hit a home run from both sides of the plate in a single game, and he did it twice. Patty Barrels to SF? We love it.
