The Giants Further Prove They Can't Make Trades After Andrew McCutchen-Pirates Disaster
By Michael Luciano

The Pittsburgh Pirates, realizing they needed to start a proper rebuild in 2018, decided to part ways with a homegrown star and former NL MVP in Andrew McCutchen. Cutch was ultimately flipped to the Giants in a move that, at the time, looked to be a steal for San Fran.
But now? Nope. The Giants somehow allowed Pirates general manager Neal Huntington to fleece them.

Pittsburgh received reliever Kyle Crick and outfielder Bryan Reynolds for McCutchen. Crick has posted a 3.54 ERA over the last two seasons, while Reynolds hit .314 with 16 home runs while placing fourth in Rookie of the Year voting in his first season as a Pirate.
McCutchen looked nothing like the MVP player he was in Pittsburgh. During his brief tenure in San Francisco, McCutchen hit just .255 with 15 home runs in 130 games. Before the end of the year, he was traded to the New York Yankees before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in free agency after that season.
Finally, the Pirates win a trade.

The Pirates knew they were going to take a lot of heat for trading away a beloved franchise icon like McCutchen, but at least they got a very promising center fielder out of the deal. Now, if only the Chris Archer trade went as well for them...
