The San Francisco Giants have made a move to bolster their outfield depth, in the form of one of baseball's renowned speedsters.
According to MLB insider Andrew Baggarly, the Giants have signed free agent outfielder Billy Hamilton to a minor-league contract.

The signing comes in wake of the reports that the team had been targeting one of the league's top remaining free agents in outfielder Yasiel Puig.
Hamilton, who split time with the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves last year, doesn't necessarily solve any major problems for the Giants, but at the very least, he provides them with a major league player that can be called upon if needed.
He doesn't bring that much upside at the plate, especially considering his .261 xwOBA ranked as the fourth-lowest mark in all of baseball last year, but he provides tremendous speed on the base paths and could be utilized as a pinch runner for the Giants, as well as an above average outfielder.

Hamilton's 97th percentile sprint speed helped him accumulate seven outs above average while patrolling the outfield grass in 2019, and his ability to chase down fly balls could prove useful in San Francisco's cavernous park.
