Giants Reveal Concerning Update on Sterling Shepard's Recovery From Latest Concussion
By Ian Anderson
Thing are going from bad to worse for the New York Giants. Wide receiver Sterling Shepard has been dealing with concussions for much of the 2019 season.
Shepard initially suffered a concussion Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, which forced him to miss Week 2. He returned the following week and played in the Giants' next three games, but was again concussed in Week 5 against the Vikings.
The 26-year-old has been sidelined ever since, and despite the expectation he'd suit up on Monday night, he ended up sitting the game out. And the latest update from Pat Shurmur is concerning.
Shurmur described Shepard's concussion as "a serious injury that requires a serious response."
Obviously concussions are scary to begin with, but the fact that Shepard already suffered two this season alone, and hasn't played in over a month is a major concern. Shurmur's comments certainly won't soothe the nerves of Giants fans.
When healthy Shepard has proved to be a quality No. 2 receiver, and while other receivers like Golden Tate and Darius Slayton have stepped up, the G-Men have clearly missed Shepard's presence on the outside for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.
The Giants will certainly be monitoring Shepard closely, but at this point, given the team's record and the potential risks facing the young wideout, they may be better off shutting him down for the year.
