Giants Showing Interest in Cubs Standout Free Agent Nicholas Castellanos
By Adam Weinrib
We're not entirely positive what the San Francisco Giants' plan is here, but it's certainly placing a thorn firmly in the Cubs' side.
After a value-reestablishing second half in Wrigley Field, it seems San Fran is showing interest in adding Nicholas Castellanos, mere days after jettisoning versatile outfielder Kevin Pillar.
Castellanos, a top prospect whose power never completely delivered on its promise until 2019's second half, has generally established himself as more of a doubles hitter. That's something that could look quite appealing in the wide alleyways of Oracle Park, but is ultimately less impactful than someone who can sock dingers.
And nobody did more of that, in a ballpark-specific sort of way, than Castellanos in August and September 2019. He hit 16 homers in just 51 games with the Cubs, and seemed to be one of those rare culture fits that defies projections, so long as he's wearing the right uniform.
If he leaves the friendly confines, it's anyone's guess what type of player they'll be receiving.
